U-Tube Manometer’s and how they work…

A u-tube manometer measure and displays the suction in inches of water column. This is often notated as inch WC. Inches of water column is the amount of pressure inside a pipe. There is red oil inside the u-tube manometer that shows the pressure inside the radon vent pipe.

You can determine whether your radon system is functioning if the u-tube manometer shows that there is pressure in the pipe. Homeowners in Madison and Southern Wisconsin with u-tube manometers installed should look to see if the liquid in the tube is uneven. If the liquid is equal on both sides, this indicates no pressure and no suction from the fan. If the liquid is even on both sides, the radon mitigation system is not sucking on the soil gassed underneath the home which means the system and consequently,  not removing the radon gas from your home or business.
